History :


In 1996 an eminent group of business leaders and academicians recognised the need for a globally top-ranked and distinctive business school in Asia. They realised that the evolving business scenario would require young leaders trained in the nuances of transitional economies, yet exposed to a global perspective. The vision of the founders was to create a school that was different in many ways – with innovative academic programmes, and a world-class, yet affordable, overall value proposition. Through their collective networks, the founders inspired the very best in business and academia to see their vision and join their cause.

In less than a year, the Executive Board was formed to be followed shortly by the formation of the International Academic Council. Things moved fast from then on, with academic associations with two of the worlds leading business schools - Kellogg School of Management and the Wharton School. The London Business School followed closely before the launch of the first Post Graduate Programme. The Government of Andhra Pradesh welcomed the ISB into Hyderabad, laying the foundation stone for the campus in 1999. The Post Graduate Programme was launched in 2001 with the first batch of 128 students, followed shortly by the launch of the first Executive Education programmes.

It all began on 29th July, 2009 at 06.45 A.M. in the morning. With some nervousness and some excitement I was sitting with 120 chosen out of 1 lack 20 odd thousands, as a part of the Batch of 2011, in the historical auditorium of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. I was to change for ever. The learning began with understanding the discipline of time, attire, presentations etc. Following couple of months were roloking. For the pottery to take a proper shape the clay  must be crushed well to avoid any glut. This is what happens at JBIMS. You are made to realize the standard this Business School of towering repute, demands in order to become a real Bajajite.

In the initial couple of months we learnt time management, how to handle pressure, presentation skills etc. My confidence, general knowledge and acumen were tested straight on, as we were faced with many challenging activities with stiff deadlines.

Our eyes twinkled with admiration for brilliance when we were introduced to the veteran faculty of JBIMS who are not just preachers, but practitioners. Bookish theories were understood with practical industrial happenings and sometimes even rewritten with uncommon perspectives. These stalwarts were giving us learning of 3 decades in 3 hours. We were asked to catch the true flavor of the bazaar by venturing out on the streets to learn marketing and were made to comprehend the implications of numbers in financial statements. All the concepts of Kotler, DFMA, MBWA, and Pokayoke etc. were made to be practiced and experienced during our studies.

In my opinion, the real incentive of JBIMS is its location and its non-residential campus, which thwarts you from remaining in the comfort zone. This is also the reason why JBIMS ranks first in terms of the Return on Investment among all the B-Schools in the country. You are always in touch with the pulse of the outside world.

Its proximity from the corporate head quarters facilitates those ameliorating guest lectures by executives whose words are unparallel to any business book. We enjoyed and learnt immensely from industrial leaders such as CEOs; NSE, U TV, Axis Holdings and many more.

You live and enjoy life Bajaj way, once the eight pillars; its committees take charge of its fun and academic activities. Nothing is free or complementary at JBIMS. You’ve got to do it your self and every Bajajite learn it the hard way. In the process we learn a great deal of organizing, man management, leadership, decision making etc. you have it all here; parties, Strategym, quick summers-off summers, quizzes, competitions, real industrial case challenges etc.

One word to explain life at Bajaj is ‘Befalling’. You’ve got to be on your toes to face surprise tests, 7 A.M. to 9 P.M. lectures, the competitions etc. You will always be short of time to pick up the offerings that this great institute has got to offer. It’s not a wonder to me any more as to why its called the ‘CEOs factory’.

In order to meet the growing demand for management education, the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal, with the help of a donation from Narsee Monjee Educational Trust, established a recognized Management institute of the Mumbai University in 1981.

Since then NMIMS has grown into a flourishing University, offering courses / programs across various disciplines, such as Management, Technology, Science, Pharmacy, Architecture and Commerce. Today, the University has over 5000 students and more than 200 faculty members. The faculty at the University represent an eclectic mix of Industry and Academic experience; national and international experiences.

SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed-to-be University’s Mumbai Campus is conveniently located at JVPD Scheme, close to the Domestic and International Terminals of the airport in the financial and commercial capital of the country, Mumbai. It has seven Schools in its ambit with each School operating like an independent business unit and having its separate infrastructure.

The campus has 40,000 square feet of built up area. Each of the Schools have classrooms, seminar and the conference halls, MDP centres, Libraries, Computer centres that are fully air-conditioned and equipped with multimedia and other instructional hardware.
 
Classrooms:
 
All classrooms on the campus are air-conditioned and have ceiling mounted LCDs. Most classrooms have a capacity of 60.

Library:
 
The R. M. Desai Library Learning Resource Centre at the NMIMS and the School of Business Management and libraries of each of the Schools are well furnished and air conditioned with a total stock of more than 47,000 volumes and subscribes to about 308 Indian and Foreign periodicals spanning all aspects of management. The libraries also house 520 video’s, 320 audio’s, 190 CD’s, 275 VCD’s, annual reports, management games, news clippings, newsletters and case studies. The open access system facilitates free use of books on the shelf.

In addition to the regular services, NMIMS also provides facilities like inter library loans, audio listening facilities, etc. A photocopier is available within the library to make extraction of information easier. The library also organizes book exhibitions during the year.

The library is a member of BCL (British Council Library), AIRC (American Information Resource Centre), BMA (Bombay Management Association), MANLIBNET (Management Library Network), AVEHI (Audio Video Edu Resource Centre), Advance Standard Council of India and ECCH (European Case Clearing House Ltd). Library also has tie ups with Harvard Business School for cases for other Harvard products.

Library services provided are – Reference Service, ILL-Inter Library Loan, Current Awareness Service (CAS), Info Alert/SDI – Selective Dissemination of Information, TOC of the day, Library Databases.
MDP Hall:
 
Today’s business environment is more competitive than ever before and corporations that are capable of acting on today’s business demands and realising tomorrow’s opportunities have the cutting edge. Many of the Middle and Senior Management from leading companies have participated in the various Management Development Programs organized by NMIMS.

NMIMS houses a state-of-the-art Management Development Program(MDP) hall. MDPs for the industry are a regular feature of the NMIMS’s interaction with the corporate world. Programs are custom designed to suit the requirements of individual organizations and also retailed.
The Audio Interactive Language Lab
NMIMS has pioneered the initiative of scientifically assisting students in preparing for Group Discussions or Job Interviews by developing an Audio Interactive Language Lab on the campus. This move is mainly directed towards making the students display the right internal personality driven message to their recruiters during a corporate placement, group discussions or interviews that are lining-up in the campus. This is how the system functions: The teacher records and makes a master lesson with as many copies possible. The student does all his work on this pre-recorded tape copy. On playing back, the student gets the teacher’s voice followed by his own, giving him an instant comparison of his performance with the model. There are separate audio consoles in which clusters of students are seated in demarcated boxes to conduct the practice sessions. So an original tape with the teacher’s voice, the copies with the student’s voice and the headphones for comparison arrive as the obvious audio instruments to learn the dictums in communication like a song.

 
Computer Centres:
 
The Computer Centres are equipped with branded 60 branded personal computers adequately supported by 4 MBPS leased line for Internet connectivity. They are also equipped with a wide range of licensed system software and applications software. The entire campus is connected with Wi-Fi network.

Higher education relies a lot on I.T. infrastructural resources. NMIMS has been consciously and consistently building its I.T. infrastructure since its inception. We have embraced technology to a very great extent.

Campus Network:
 
The Campus Network is based on a fiber optic back bone and 100 MBPS Ethernet technologies. The Campus Network covers all schools, class rooms, library, faculty and staff. The intranet has 425 computers which are interconnected by a fiber optic network. Every classroom is equipped with PC and LCD projectors integrated with campus wide network.
 
Wireless Hotspots:
 
In addition to the wired network, the entire campus has a parallel Secured wireless network. You will be able to access the entire networked resources from virtually anywhere in the campus.
Notebooks for everyone
Full Time students are equipped with a laptop, which allows them to access the learning resources available on the Campus Network and the Internet round the clock. Thus, it makes it possible for the students to access information resources anywhere and anytime in the campus.
 
Internet at 4 mbps:
 
All members on the intranet have access to Internet 24 hours a day, through 4 mbps Leased Line. The Internet bandwidth is being enhanced every year. This has been a pioneering effort by NMIMS.
 
Computer Centre & Services:
 
The Computer Centre has over 60 Pentium IV PCs in LAN, Printers, Scanners, DVD burners, Digital Cameras. The Computer Resource Centre provides various network based services such as Internet, Groupware, Database, Proxy, Email, Laser Printing, and Laptops & standalone LCD Projectors.
 
Software library:
 
The software environment includes SQL Server DBMS, SPSS, Rational Enterprise suite, MS Office (Campus Wide License), MS Projects, Simulation packages, Visual and Object Oriented Languages like Visual Basic & Visual C++ and Java.
 
Integrated Institute Management System

 
NMIMS has deployed an integrated Institute Management System designed to track and manage the day-to-day activities of the NMIMS. It is a complete automated administration solution designed to enhance the productivity of staff through automated and integrated processes.

This system acts as an Online Transaction Processing system able to handle large volumes of data as well as a Management Information System that provides the much-needed management reporting.

The system covers the modules such as student and registration, employee/faculty details, attendance recording and reporting, time-table/schedules, examination and results, library management, integrated accounts/inventory, payroll, purchase and fixed assets.

The most significant benefit of this system has been the creation of a central repository of data on students, faculty, staff, programs and courses which can be seen by those who have the access rights.
The Road ahead
All these initiatives have placed the NMIMS on a maturity level where it can expand to a new horizon and act as a model for the Indian academic institutions. The journey has just started; new vistas have opened new challenges of organizing, filtering, processing and preserving the enormous information and knowledge. The NMIMS has already put in place a plan to implement a Learning and Content Management system to manage the vast knowledge and create an online learning environment. Once this last leg of modernization gets accomplished, it has a potential to generate numerous knowledge hubs within the current framework. These hubs once synergized possess the power to accelerate knowledge capture and dissemination, thereby enabling NMIMS to compete in the global environment.

About college: Andhra Medical College (AMC) is the oldest medical college in Andhra Pradesh and one of the oldest medical colleges in India. It came into being on 19th July 1923 and rapidly acquired national attention as a center of higher learning in medical education. The first principal was Captain F. J. Anderson and 32 students were admitted in that year. The 'medical school' was initially affiliated to Madras University. The medical college has been attached to King George Hospital (KGH) and a number of other regional hospitals. Now under the current principal Dr.Kalpana Subrahmanyam, the medical college admits 150 under-graduates, 164 post-graduates and 8 super-speciality trainees along with numerous para-medical and health related courses under the NTR Health University. AMC students have been well know nationally and internationally, not only for their excellence in academics but also in the areas of sports and cultural activities. Alluri Sitaram Raju Academy of Medical Sciences, Eluru
The pre-medical course may be conducted either in a Medical College or Science College.
 The marks obtained in Mathematics are not to be considered for admission to MBBS course.

                Candidate possessing qualification of the University / Board of an institution outside the State / Country should produce a Certificate of  Equivalence from the Registrar, Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, A.P., Vijayawada, India.

Duration of MBBS Course :
The total duration of MBBS Course is 4 ½ years plus one year internship. The 4 ½ years course is divided into 9 semesters. The duration of PG degree is 3 years. The Duration of PG Diploma is two years.

Teaching and Learning Methods :
The MBBS teaching consists of didactic lectures, seminars, group discussions and inter departmental lectures. Very good opportunities are provided for teacher student inter action. The ultimate goal is to train a physician who is capable of looking after  the  preventive, promotive, curative & rehabilitative aspects of medicine. The internal assessment carries 20% marks. The final  assessment carries 80% Marks. The examinations and evaluation are conducted by NTR University of Health sciences. The Degrees awarded by NTR University of Health sciences are recognized throughout the world.

Non Clinical Departments :
The Medical College is having Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry Departments in the A Module. The Lecture Galleries, Demonstration rooms, Departmental libraries, and laboratories are as per MCI norms. All the lecture Galleries are air conditioned.

Para clinical Departments :
The Departments of Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology,  Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine  are having all facilities for under graduate and Post graduate training.

Clinical Departments :
The Departments of General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, TB and chest Diseases, Psychiatry, Radio Diagnosis, and anesthesia are located in the teaching Hospital. These departments are having very good infrastructure for teaching and  to tackle all Medical and Surgical Emergencies.

Urban Health Centre :
The College is running an Urban Health Centre in Ashoknagar, Eluru to impart field training to medical students. The Post Partum programme attached to the OB&Gy Department is also serving the needs of urban population.

The Rural Health centre :
located at Akiveedu is also imparting training to Medicos. Besides, it is also serving the health needs of 2.0 lakh population.

The Primary Health centres :
at Gundugolanu, Pedapadu and Pothunuru are also used for training purpose. These centres are very good for young medicos to understand the health problems of rural population.

Library :


A Modern air conditioned library is available. It has more than 12,000 books and about 50,000 numbers of journals. The College subscribes to 70 Indian Journals and 38 Foreign Journals.
